Team work all the way ...
Rachel Jaques
Publishing Director - Publishing and Editorial (Newgen Malaysia)
Rachel was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and holds an LLB (Hons.) from the University of London and the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) (Malaysia). She has also completed the professional ICSA exams and is a graduate member of the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. She enjoys cooking.
Rachel joined Thomson Reuters in September 1997 as the editorial manager and was then promoted to publishing manager for Malaysia in 1999. In 2014 she was promoted to publishing director. She joined Newgen in January 2017. She has been in the legal publishing line for 34 years in total, including the years prior to Thomson/Newgen. She has worked well with colleagues from different countries by understanding the work culture of those countries.
Working on Thomson Reuters projects has continued to allow her to grow her understanding of the various aspects of publishing in Malaysia. She claims this was possible with the support of the team at Newgen Chennai.
Understanding the Newgen way of doing business was very challenging to her as she had to learn new ways of carrying out the publishing activities and work within different time zones and accommodate different ways in carrying out tasks. It is her hope that this learning will allow her and her team to achieve their end goals with ease. For her, this could not have been done without the support of her team in Malaysia.
The greatest achievements for her are when local publications are published and her authors are happy with the quality of publication in all aspects and are willing to continue working with Newgen on other projects.
The camaraderie of the team in Malaysia and the support provided by the team in Chennai are what she loves most about Newgen. She believes that both teams endeavour to give their best to each other.
