Name: Pankhuri Bhatnagar

Years of Experience: 3 years

Current Role at Newgen: Legal Content Writer

Educational Background

Pankhuri Bhatnagar holds a 5-year integrated B.A. L.L.B. degree from Amity Law School, Delhi (affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University). Additionally, she has certifications in Intellectual Property and Cyber laws, along with a Diploma in Legal English.

What Do You Like Most About Your Job?

“There are several aspects of my job that I find truly rewarding,” Pankhuri shares. “I enjoy the intellectual challenge of taking complex and lengthy legal updates and converting them into clear, concise, and engaging content that resonates with a variety of audiences. The constant influx of new judgments and news reports helps me stay up-to-date with the latest legal developments and keeps my work fresh and engaging.”

Pankhuri takes pride in creating content that educates and empowers readers. “Whether it’s informing readers about a new treaty that was signed or providing a summary of the latest judgment rendered by a court, my work enables other legal professionals and laymen to stay updated and thus contributes to a broader understanding of the law.”

“Finally, being a Legal Content Writer allows me to further enhance my English communication skills, create compelling narratives, and use my creativity within the legal framework,” Pankhuri adds. “This blend of intellectual rigor and creative freedom makes this a truly fulfilling career path for me.”

What Is the Most Challenging Part of Your Job?

“The role of a legal writer comes with several challenges,” Pankhuri explains. “While most cases and legal updates are brief and clear, I often face complex judgments that have more than fifteen parties or multiple motions in one hearing. One of the most challenging tasks I’ve performed at Newgen was to convert a complex 169-page judgment into a 1.5-page summary without skipping over any important points!”

“Another challenge is striking a balance between accuracy and clarity while preparing the content,” she notes. “The information must be comprehensive and factually correct but has to be presented in a way that is easy for the audience to understand, even if they are not from a legal background.”

Additionally, the pressure to publish timely updates on landmark cases can be intense. “Since the cases have to be updated on a daily basis, I need to quickly grasp the salient issues, relevant laws and precedents, and potential implications of each case and submit the assignment on the same day itself. Thus, striking the right balance between speed and quality is also a challenge but these challenges are what make my job exciting and intellectually stimulating.”

Skills Needed to Be a Legal Content Writer

Pankhuri highlights several key skills for aspiring Legal Content Writers:

  • Legal Knowledge: “It is important to have a strong understanding of general legal principles and the specific terminologies used in the field of law allotted to the writer.”
  • Research Skills: “The ability to effectively locate and analyze information.”
  • Writing Skills: “The ability to write clear, concise, and engaging stories that grasp the attention of the reader while being easy to understand.”
  • Adaptability: “Different reporters have different writing and citation guidelines. One project may require short and simple sentences in British English, while another may require legal jargon and U.S. English. Writers must know how to adapt as per the project requirements.”
  • Attention to Detail: “The content must be free from grammatical, spelling, and factual errors. Legal provisions, case background, and citations must be proofread to avoid spreading misinformation.”
  • Independence and Time Management: “Work-from-home jobs necessitate proper time management and the ability to independently handle multiple projects without missing any deadlines.”

How Would You Pitch the Role to Someone Interested?

“There is never a dull day when you work in the field of content creation,” Pankhuri says enthusiastically. “Unlike the grind of litigation, where you might be stuck on a single case for days or even months, here, every day brings a new challenge and an opportunity to work on a new case. You will be reading, analyzing, and writing about the latest court judgments, legislative amendments, and other legal updates. This allows you to learn something new every day and gain real-world knowledge of how laws are interpreted and applied by judges.”

“Over time, you’ll develop subject matter expertise in your designated area of law and become a true authority in the legal content world,” she adds. “The pride that comes with seeing your name published on online legal platforms is immeasurable and enhances your credibility and writing portfolio.”

“While most legal writers operate on a fast-paced schedule, this also means that all the work is wrapped up on the same day, allowing you to go to bed with satisfaction and peace of mind, without any pending tasks looming over your head,” Pankhuri explains. “Importantly, writers are judged on task completion rather than the number of hours spent. This means you’ll have the freedom to manage your time effectively and deliver high-quality work without the pressure of long hours.”

“Content writing is a continuously evolving industry. You can earn a competitive salary while having the flexibility to work from anywhere in the world, thus maintaining a healthy work-life balance,” she concludes. “Therefore, if you’re looking for a challenging and rewarding career that offers flexibility, growth opportunities, and the satisfaction of making a real impact, apply now to become a Legal Content Writer with our team.”

A Day in the Life of Pankhuri Bhatnagar

“As a Legal Content Writer working on U.S. shifts, my day ends late at night, around 3 AM,” Pankhuri shares. “Accordingly, I wake up late the next morning. I get a few hours to unwind, spend time with my family, catch up on personal errands, or tackle any additional office work that may have arisen. This flexibility is a major perk of the remote work environment.”

“In the evening, I receive my tasks for the day and dive into work with full dedication and zero distractions. The first half of my shift is dedicated to reading and highlighting the important parts of the judgment, which helps me grasp the key points and nuances of the case,” she explains.

“Next, I begin the writing process, which involves several revisions to ensure that the article is crisp, concise, and engaging. I strive to avoid repetition and ensure that the content flows smoothly. Once I am done writing the article or preparing the summary, I give it a catchy title and headline that grabs the attention of the reader. Finally, I proofread the entire document, add relevant citations, and mail it to the clients.”

“Meeting deadlines is crucial in this role, and the fast-paced environment keeps things exciting. The most rewarding aspect? Seeing my well-researched and expertly written content published in my name on the legal portal the following day!”
